Important note for students enrolled prior to Fall 2010.

  1. Download the registration form. Fax or email the completed form to 919.843.8138 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
  2. If you wish to be classified as a North Carolina resident* for tuition purposes, you must complete the Residency Status Form and submit it with your registration form. All students are now REQUIRED to complete the long from if they were not registered for the previous semester. Once you have submitted a residency form for the program, you will not have to submit another one unless you skip a semester, or your residency information changes.
    • NOTE: Question 20 is often not filled out completely. The answers to this question are critical and information must be submitted for each of the last three years. Each column corresponds with a previous year.
    • If you or your spouse are not US citizens, complete the Supplemental Form in ADDITION to the Long Residency Form.
    • Spousal Supplemental Form: If you are a married student, you may benefit from your spouse's duration of residence. Complete the Spousal Supplemental Form.
  3. Newly admitted students:
    • You will receive an email confirming your enrollment and your UNC Personal ID number or PID. Your PID is much like a social security number and will be used to verify your eligibility for university services and resources. Please keep this information in a secure location.
    • Once you have received your PID, you can then create a username, also called an Onyen (Only Name You’ll Ever Need) and password. The Onyen and password will be used to access course materials, email and online University resources. Visit onyen.unc.edu and click on “Create an Onyen.”
    • Once you have set up your Onyen and password, go to the ITS Challenge-Response Password Reset System to set a prompt for remembering your Onyen password (https://onyen.unc.edu/cgi-bin/unc_id/chpwqa.pl). Students often forget their passwords between semesters. This is the simplest way to get your password if you have forgotten it.
    • When you set up your Onyen and password, you will generate a UNC e-mail account. In addition to communication through the Blackboard course management system, this e-mail address will be used by your instructor, classmates and UNC administration to communicate with you. If you wish to use another e-mail account to manage your course-related correspondence, you must go to onyen.unc.edu and click on “Forward email.” Follow the steps to send your unc.edu e-mail to another address.
  4. Newly admitted students and continuing students registering during early registration: You will be billed for your tuition by the University Cashier's Office at http://cashiers.unc.edu/. However, your registration may be canceled without notice if you fail to pay by the payment deadline. Once your tuition is paid, a tuition receipt can be printed from the Web at my.unc.edu. You will need to have an Onyen and password to access my.unc.edu.
  5. Continuing Students: After early registration, you will need to pay your tuition before your registration can be processed.
