Because the certificate program is supported by state funds and offers academic credit as if students were on campus, we are required by the University of North Carolina to charge the same in-state tuition rate that on-campus graduate journalism and mass communication students pay. That rate for the 2008-2009 academic year is $372 per credit hour, or $1,116 per course plus $32 in student fees (a $6.50 registration fee, $.50 UNC Association of Student Governments fee and $25 Administrative Computing Fee). Out-of-state tuition is set at twice the in-state rate, or $744 per credit hour, or $2,232 per course plus $32 in student fees (a $6.50 registration fee, $.50 UNC Association of Student Governments fee and $25 Administrative Computing Fee). These rates are good for courses completed through June 30, 2009. Students registering on or after the first day of classes will be charged a $20 late-registration fee. If you register on or before the early registration deadline, you will be billed for your tuition by the University Cashier. If you wait until after the deadline, you must pay your tuition BEFORE you can register for classes. Click here to see the University Calendar for registration deadlines. The University Cashier accepts cash (in person only), check or money order. Mail your payment to CB #1400 Bynum Hall, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-1400. To pay by VISA or MasterCard, log in to http://studentcentral.unc.edu with your Onyen and password. Scroll to the Cashier Services section, then click the "Pay Your Bill" button. (A nonrefundable transaction fee will be added to your bill to cover the cost of providing credit-card services. The transaction fee is currently 2 percent of the total charge and is subject to change if there is a change in the cost of providing the credit card service.) The Cashier's Office also offers an installment payment plan. For more information, visit http://cashiers.unc.edu or call (919) 962-1368.
