Administrative assistant to Penny Muse Abernathy

Christine Shia joined the school in March 2010 as a part time administrative assistant to Professor Abernathy. She helps coordinate efforts of the McCormick Project and assists in the classroom.

Previously, Shia worked as a communications specialist for the Cecil G. Sheps Center in Health Services Research as a writer, editor and graphic designer of publications and legislative documents. She also coordinated press releases and wrote a monthly in-house newsletter. Before that, she worked as an assistant in a small advertising firm and as a general assignment reporter for the Raleigh News & Observer and The Sarasota Herald Tribune.

She has an M.F.A. in creative writing from N.C. State University and an M.A. in journalism from the University of South Florida. She is currently working on a novel, due to be completed in January 2012.
