Assistant professor

Ph.D., Queensland University of Technology
B.Bus., Queensland University of Technology
M.A., Charles Sturt University

Image Dougall teaches graduate and undergraduate classes designed to partner students with corporations, government agencies and community organizations to develop values-driven strategic communication campaigns. Her 20-year career includes extensive industry experience in strategic communication management and counseling for organizations in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Canada. Dougall recently received a UNC-Chapel Hill Ueltschi Grant to develop a crisis communication service-learning class in spring 2007 requiring field engagement with a community partner to research, design and implement crisis response and recovery strategies. Her research applies the analysis of media coverage to describe and predict the increasingly complex public opinion environment of organizations, and to track organization-activist relationships over time. Dougall’s scholarly work has most recently been published in Public Relations Review, PRism, and the Asia Pacific Public Relations Journal. In May 2005, Dougall’s longitudinal study of Australia’s major banks was featured in the national trade magazine PR Week, as part of the “new science” of public relations.
