Graduate Student Association Activities
As part of the GSA's mission to serve graduate students' social, academic and pre-professional interests, the GSA hosts a number of regular activities, including:
Research Roundtable
The Research Roundtable is a series of occasional gatherings aimed at providing useful information for graduate students. Coordinated by students, the events cover a range of issues, from introductory discussions at the start of the fall semester to later workshops on finding jobs. Faculty members often generously volunteer their expertise by leading or joining discussions. Roundtable events generally are located in Carroll Hall facilities.
Recent topics of Research Roundtable events include:
- Making the adjustments to grad student life at UNC-Chapel Hill
- Secrets of making sense of the Davis grad library
- Writing effective literature reviews
- Getting published in academic journals
- Preparations for presenting papers at academic conferences
- How to find the best courses outside the School of Journalism and Mass Communication
- Tools for impressing people and finding jobs, in the field or academia
