Wanted: Assistant Professor in Mass Communication Law
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is searching for an outstanding assistant professor to teach and conduct research in its nationally renowned mass communication law and policy program. The program includes faculty who teach law to undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students. There also is a dual-degree (M.A./J.D.) program and a vibrant media law center, both collaborations with the UNC School of Law. This is a tenure-track position.Duties:
Teach two courses per semester, including undergraduate mass communication law classes tailored to the needs of public relations and advertising students. Also, share the teaching of graduate mass communication law courses, a class in Internet law, and a law class that is part of the curriculum of the School’s new online master’s degree in communication and technology. Conduct significant research in mass communication law and policy. Participate in activities of the UNC Center for Media Law and Policy. Advise undergraduates and graduate student theses and dissertations, and carry out appropriate service.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or J.D. ABD candidates who are very close to completion of their dissertations also will be considered. Expertise and interest in specializing in law and policy focused on advertising and public relations, including relevant regulatory law, strongly preferred. However, other areas of interest and specialization will be considered. Evidence of research excellence or potential excellence is required.
