Undergraduate Students PDF Print E-mail
The undergraduate program is based solidly in the liberal arts, and students take two-thirds of their coursework outside the School in history, English, mathematics, foreign languages, the arts, social sciences, natural sciences and philosophy. The philosophy guiding the School's efforts is that journalists and other communicators must understand the political, social, economic and cultural forces that operate within society.

In the School, students choose one of five sequences and take specialized courses in theory and practice: advertising, electronic communication, news editorial, public relations and visual communication.

The balance of each student's program is expected to provide the broad education necessary for careers in mass communication. That philosophy of a broad education helps the School fulfill its responsibility to the state of North Carolina to prepare men and women for jobs on newspapers and other mass media in the state.
