Transfer students PDF Print E-mail

Students from outside the University must apply to UNC-Chapel Hill and follow those deadlines at http://www.admissions.unc.edu/applying/transfer.htm. Students should make sure that they check journalism as their intended major; otherwise, they might be placed in the Department of Communication Studies.

Once a student is accepted to UNC-Chapel Hill as a journalism-mass communication major, the School’s student records staff will send a letter, outlining registration and orientation information. If you have questions, you can contact consult the student records staff, the associate dean for undergraduate studies or the senior associate dean.

Students who are attending UNC-Chapel Hill should declare journalism as a pre-major. If they have a 2.9 GPA at the end of the third semester, they will automatically be moved into the School at the end of the fourth semester.

UNC-Chapel Hill students who want to transfer into the School after their fourth semester must fill out an intradepartmental transfer request available in the Student Records Office in Carroll 154. They must have a 2.9 GPA. The senior associate dean reviews all intradepartmental requests. Rarely are students admitted with less than a 2.9 GPA.
